A stunning 18th century mahogany and walnut Dutch marquetry roll-top desk. The pull out writing surface opening the cylindrical fall, inlaid with an Arabic hunting scene, opening to reveal a beautifully fitted interior with numerous drawers all with the same fine inlaid detail, one with ink well. A tambour door opening to reveal an unusual inlaid chequered panel and 2 original mirrored sides, one opening to reveal a secret compartment. The galleried top section with numerous turned finials and two locking doors enclosing oak shelves. The bombe shaped front with three larger drawers of a good, hand cut, dovetailed construction with oak linings, the lovely original solid brass handles and ornate escutcheons. The whole piece and sides profusely inlaid with flowers, birds and butterflies. A truly impressive piece of furniture, coming in three sections. Circa 1800
